Because you will be sedated, you cannot drive after the procedure is over. You must have someone to drive you home or the procedure will not be performed. This is for your safety. You may not take a taxi by yourself or ride the bus. You may have a friend or family member pick you up at the hospital pick up area. If you give us a phone number when you are being admitted, we will be happy to speak with the person driving you home and call them and arrange a time to meet them. You will be with us approximately 4 hours.

You should not take any Aspirin, Motrin or like medications 10 days prior. No Plavix for 5 days before the procedure. Please notify your physician if you take Coumadin.

After the balloon dilation is completed you will be sent to radiology for a barium swallow to make sure there is no complication.
