Nulytely Colonoscopy Preparation

Location: PIEDMONT HOSPITAL GI LAB (Bldg 77, 1st Floor)

Enter at Collier Road entrance. Park in the “North” parking deck. Take elevator to the bridge level (BR). Sign will say “Bridge to Hospital”. Get off at the bridge level. Walk over the glassed in covered bridge. Turn right and then left. Look for sign to GI Lab. Check in at the window when you enter the GI Lab. You will be registered there.

DIGESTIVE HEALTHCARE ENDOSCOPY LAB (Bldg 95, Suite 4075)

Enter at the Collier Road entrance. Park in the “South” parking deck. Take the elevator to the “Orange Level”. Cross over the glassed in covered bridge. You are now in the 95 building. You do not have to check in at the hospital. Go up to the 4th floor and look for Suite 4075. Sign in at the window. If someone is sitting at the window, let them know you have arrived.

**You will need 1 container of one of the following by prescription: Colyte, Golytely, or Nulytely, 1 Reglan tablet (Prescription) and 4 Dulcolax tablets (over the counter).

***You will be with us approximately 1 ½ – 2 hours from the time your instructions tell you to arrive to the time you are ready to leave. Your ride must check in with you and remain in the clinic until your procedure is complete***

2 weeks prior to procedure

If you are on Plavix, get your doctor’s permission to stop taking.

1 week prior to your procedure

Stop taking Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Vitamin E, iron supplement or arthritis medications and herbal products for 7 days prior to and 7 days after your procedure especially if you are going to have a polyp removed.

***If you are on coumadin you must get your doctor’s permission to stop taking the drug. If we remove a polyp, we will let you know when you can start back on it.

Procedure Day

You may take your blood pressure medication with a sip of water on the day of your  procedure.

Procedure Preparation

On the day before your procedure begin a clear liquid diet.You may have beverages such as tea, coffee, carbonated drinks, strained fruit juices, popsicles (not red) jello (no red jello), broth or bouillon. NO CREAMED SOUPS OR MILK PRODUCTS. You may have clear liquids up until midnight the day before your procedure.

You will receive a prescription for ONE of the following: Colyte, Golytely or Nulytely, Solutions are the same, just different brands. This is the liquid laxative that will cleanse the colon for your procedure.

1:00 pm- Take Dulcolax (4) tablets. If you are Dr Michael  Galambos, Dr Sims or Dr Rubin’s patient only take (2) tablets. Start drinking the laxative around 4:00 pm the day before your procedure.   Drink an 8 oz glass of the prep every 10 -15 minutes until all has been consumed. Even if your results are clear, continue drinking. Clear results are clear, yellow or green colored water. You may have results of a sandy sediment that sinks to the bottom of the toilet. This is okay. You should be having results within 1 – 3 hours.  If you are not able to drink the laxative and begin vomiting, please call 404-355-3200.

Take the raglan 10 mg tablet as you begin to drink the laxative. This will help with nausea and bloating.

Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before your procedure. If your arrival time is 12 noon or later, you may have 8 oz of a clear liquid at 7 am and then nothing by mouth until after your procedure.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Bring your insurance cards and picture ID with you.
  • Bring a list of your medications.
  • Leave your car keys and parking ticket with your driver.
  • If you have any special needs please notify the staff prior to your procedure (Pacemaker, internal defibrillator, latex allergy, need interpreter).
  • *Wear comfortable clothes to your procedure. Please do not wear shoes that will not remain on your feet (i. e. No flip flops, sandals or backless shoes.)*
  • Attention Patients scheduled in Digestive Healthcare’s Endoscopy Lab: Your driver must check in and wait for you in the Endoscopy waiting room.  It generally takes 1 ½ – 2 hours for a procedure to be completed.

If you cannot keep your appointment you must call and cancel the appointment 72 hours prior to the appointment to avoid being charged a cancellation or no show fee of $150.00.

When you receive your statement from this procedure, there will be an invoice for the doctor’s fee, an invoice for the endoscopy center (supplies and nursing care), anesthesia invoice for Propofol and you may receive a separate bill from the Pathology laboratory if biopsies are obtained.
