Dr. Jagiella

Dr. Valerie Jagiella was taught by her mother to make a positive impact on the world and help people live better lives. Driven by these values, she decided to become a physician.

When the time came to choose her specialty after medical school, Dr. Jagiella selected gastroenterology because she enjoys the detective work it affords in medicine. She was attracted by the opportunity to work directly with her patients, and prevent and treat a wide range of diseases. She also took it as a challenge that women rarely entered the field.

Dr. Jagiella has had many patients in her tenure at Digestive Healthcare of Georgia but one in particular left a lasting impact on her. She recalls a long-time patient who had a genetic predisposition to cancer. After fighting multiple forms of cancer with strength and grace, the patient ultimately succumbed to a non-cancerous disease. “I saw how she accepted her Damocles sword with dignity and lived life to the fullest,” Dr. Jagiella said. “She was such a positive person. She could bring sunshine into the darkest room. She will be forever missed.”

When Dr. Jagiella is not at the office, she enjoys the arts and “everything that is visual.” For that reason, she loves the opera and the feelings it creates. She also likes to discover new things including food, ideas, and different ways of life. She has traveled to distant locales such as Siberia, Mongolia, and Vietnam. “I enjoy experiencing the world and its people,” she said.

Dr. Jagiella is married to her husband of more than 30 years. Together, they reside in Atlanta, Georgia, and have three daughters.

The physicians at Digestive Healthcare of Georgia are closely monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. In the interest of everyone’s health and safety we ask all patients and their guests who have a fever (100° or above), symptoms of a respiratory infection, or who may have traveled to a restricted country or may have been exposed to a person with known COVID-19, the flu or any other communicable disease to reschedule their appointments or procedures. You will not be charged for canceling/rescheduling your appointment. We will be following CDC and Georgia Department of Public Health’s recommendations for screening and management of patients. If you are at all concerned you may have a serious infectious disease, your best course of action is to seek care at your primary care physician’s office or local hospital’s emergency department.

We have implemented a telemedicine visit for our patients who are unable to be in the office for their appointment. Please call our office to schedule a telemedicine visit with your provider.
